Microchip Your Pet

Pet owners can Microchip their pets at the Humane Society Calumet Area for only $20 during regular business hours.

Microchips have a unique number that is registered by computer with the owner's name, address, and phone number.

In the event that a pet is lost, animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and animal control offices can scan an animal and contact the owner. Microchips are small and undetectable to the touch.

The Humane Society of the United States reports that Microchips last at least 25 years and should not be considered a replacement for up-to-date identification tags. They estimate that one in five dogs will be lost at some point in their lives.

Cats, rabbits, and other small animals may also be microchipped.

Contact the shelter at 219-922-3811 to make an appointment or learn more about microchips.
